Inhabiting the Living Moment

January 24, 2026 Jody Mountain

Sometimes I feel as if am standing still and the wold is whizzing by.  I gather a new year has dawned and I understand it is the year 2026. I remember seeing the science fiction film 2001: A Space Odyssey when I was a child, and thinking it was so  far away.  And yet we have long since flown past that number as well!

In my perception, time is not all it's cracked up to be. It is something we take for granted and generally accept, yet throughout my life, I have experienced time to be malleable — sometimes moving faster, sometimes slowly, sometimes even seeming to move backwards.

In Lineage of Light Retreats, we experience what I would call natural evolution rather than time.  We dive into seemingly endless days that themselves breathe with Life. Without the constraints of conceptual time, we touch a way of living that exists outside of time altogether. By the end of most retreats, I often observe participants who appear to have lost five, ten, or even more years.  Did time, then, move backwards?

One of the most valuable things we learn in this work is how to inhabit the Living Moment — the present-moment tapestry of feelings, sensations, emotions, memories, images, and rhythms as they are touched by other people, circumstances, events, perceptions. We gain the possibility of welcoming our entire internal family, allowing all parts of ourselves to be present. We also have the opportunity to source ourselves in the great embrace of the Life Itself, opening access to wider and wider perspectives.

In each moment, this work allows us to include more of ourselves than the familiar face-value perceptions and knee-jerk reactions we know so well.  In a sense, it feels like waking up into a new reality—one that exists within a Living, Breathing eternity outside of conceptual time.

In this space, so rich with information, inspiration, breath, sensation, energy and communication, it can feel like there is no time for time at all.

I wonder what your experience is?

Happy exploring!

Sometimes time feels as though it is speeding past us, and at other moments it seems to loosen its grip entirely. This reflection explores what it means to inhabit the living moment and experience life beyond the clock.
